The internet was a network that was initially designed and implemented by the military for use in defense of the country from nuclear attack. The Internet was born, and the world changes forever. As more and more people realized the benefit of a network (other people in other countries were also doing the same) that can be used to send, receive and transmit data over vast distances more and more information became available to the government and the general public as a whole as long as you know what to do. Then the individual networks that linked countries were bridged through sub-marine cables which allowed data access and sharing on a global scale.
