In a first, the FTC has taken a move to bolster their powers on the internet with them ordering the closure of a so-called determined malware ISP that they say has been determined and documented to host several illegal activities such as malware, viruses, pornographic sites and many others. The ISP of course denies all accusations and say they will be fighting the FTC on the matter, claiming they are innocent of all charges. The ISP, PriceWert LLC, has denied all the FTC’s accusations yet the FTC says it has a well documented and solid case.
One of the most dangerous forms of malware that has been found to be hosted by the said ISP, the CutWail Botnet which is blamed for 35% of spam in 2009. Such botnets clutter and even cause DoS attacks, jamming up mail servers causing massive outages the world over.
The Web Hosting firm says it has dealt swiftly and efficiently, cooperating with US authorities (FBI and FTC) in the past regarding similar issues with malware and others yet at this time, no such communication was received making the closure order very much a surprise. The company has released an extensive explanation of their side on the matter (this one from PrWeb.com). They are to fight to the end and they will fight for their right according to the law. The move by the FTC was designed to bolster their stand against such activities and comapnies that host malicious activities, part of the dangers of the internet.
